Risky business: why employees take risks and what to do about it

Article Abstract:

Safety professionals and behavioral safety experts have identified the seven most common reasons why employees take risks. Although experts have different approaches to behavior-based safety, they agree on the importance of removing environmental risks and barriers that compromise safe behavior. Moreover, a behavior-based safety can only be effective when it is part of a more comprehensive strategy of intervention for discouraging risk-taking.

Labor sets stage for OSHA reform: as election time nears, Margaret Seminario makes OSHA reform her #1 priority as director of occupational safety and health for the AFL-CIO

Article Abstract:

Margaret Seminario is running for the directorship of occupational safety and health of the American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations. Seminario will push for reforms in the Occupation Safety and Health Administration's regulations. Proposed reforms would require employers to provide safety education for workers, to organize safety-and health committees, and to rectify work hazards.

Targeting 'risky' employees

Article Abstract:

Issues relating to the role of company employees in accidents in the workplace are discussed, with particular focus on legislation which relates to them. The Workplace Safety and Accountability Act embraces the contribution of employee conduct in accidents.
