Safe as houses

Article Abstract:

The Manchester housing medical team (HMT) successfully tackles the housing problems of its citizens with health problems both in private and public housing. The HMT consists of a principal and a senior medical officer, with nursing qualifications, and five nurses working as medical visitors, who are all equipped to assess the needs of patients. Care in the community policies have contributed to the change in role of the team in the three years up to 1999.

The struggle to keep up with Calman-Hine

Article Abstract:

UK cancer care nurses should be adequately trained in oncology procedures, according to the Calman-Hine cancer care report which also stresses the need for nurses to gain qualifications in post-regisitration cancer care. The Royal College of Nursing suggests a first degree cancer care qualification for specialists nurses working in regional cancer centres. UK cancer charities have supported the recommendations set out in the Calman-Hine report.

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the provision of family-friendly policies and child care for Health Service employees are discussed. The government proposals to expand and subsidize child care for staff and measures already introduced by some hospitals are described.
