The American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) has urged all US states to begin uniformly screening for 29 disorders, for each of which a treatment is available due to the body's inability to metabolize fats, protein or organic acids. A tandem mass spectrometry is used to screen, as it is cheap, fast and easy to screen for the conditions.
