Sensible sex education

Article Abstract:

Sex education in schools benefits greatly when school nurses and teachers work together on its development, implementation and evaluation, but instances of this type of close cooperation are still too rare. Most of the many school nurses who become involved in sex education do so in response to individual requests from teachers. The use of multidisciplinary training as a means of developing alliances between school nurses and teachers is being evaluated in a Dept. of Health-funded research project through the University of Manchester, England.

Should school nurses take the lead in sex education?

Article Abstract:

Two nurses debate the role of the school nurse in sex education. One believes that school nurses are more psychologically and professionally equipped to deal with delicate sexual issues. The other believes that while school nurses have a role in sex education, leadership should be left to health and sex education instructors who are trained to teach relationship skills as well as the physiological aspects of sex.
