Should we be recruiting volunteers to work in hospitals?

Chancellor Gordon Brown is calling for volunteers in the NHS. Some people believe that volunteers can provide beneficial services if their roles and resources are planned carefully, while others feel that the use of volunteers in health care will devalue the wages and skills of low-paid staff.
