Smoke and mirrors (and the yeller cat!)...

Article Abstract:

Health care consultants continue to promote the notion that more and better patient care can be delivered with fewer nurses. Statistics and graphics notwithstanding, costs of care and health care stocks continue to rise, while access to care had fallen. While staffing has been reduced, patient satisfaction has fallen, errors are more common, and complications have risen. Cutting costs without reducing profits will not improve care.

How - and how not - to be a transformational leader

Article Abstract:

Nursing managers can become transformational leaders, and this type of leadership has been detailed by experts. Transformational leaders are both exciting and charismatic, in that they get people excited and inspire pursuit of worthwhile goals. Transformational leaders transform their workers into better ones, wheres transactional leaders merely negotiate exchanges with their workers to pursue self-serving goals.

The abandonment of the patient

Article Abstract:

There may be hope for positive changes in the health care delivery systems of tomorrow. However, the picture of today's patient care appears to be grim. Patient needs and quality care seem to be too frequently lost midst profit margins. The fact that health care and service providers are acknowledging the need for change may signal a hope for a changing future.
