Health, community leaders seek more diabetes funds

Article Abstract:

Health and community leaders urged Congress to allocate more funds to combat diabetes mellitus in minority communities, where it has reached epidemic proportions. Testimony before the House Select Committee on Aging indicated that diabetes is the third leading cause of death among African-Americans and that Asian-Americans, Native Americans and Hispanics are much more likely than caucasians to develop the disease.

Humphry asks physicians' help in suicide rights battle

Article Abstract:

Derek Humphrey, author 'Final Exit,' a best-selling suicide manual, asserted that physicians should assist the suicides of terminally ill patients who want to die. At the 1992 American Assn of Suicidology conference, Humphry claimed that organized medicine, particularly the American Medical Assn, is insensitive to the pain and suffering of the terminally ill. Attendees' reactions to Humphrey's speech were mixed.
