Spondylodiscitis in SAPHO syndrome: a series of eight cases

Article Abstract:

It appears that many patients with a syndrome characterized by a combination of conditions that include synovitis, acne, pustulosis, hyperostosis, and osteitis (SAPHO) also frequently have spondylodiscitis. The medical records of 25 patients with the SAPHO syndrome were reviewed for evidence of spondylodiscitis. Thirty-two percent of these patients also had spondylodiscitis, many in multiple locations along the spine. Skin involvement was noted either before or simultaneously with bone involvement in nearly all patients with spondylodiscitis. Back pain was successfully treated with anti-inflammatory drugs.

Quantitation of IL-2Rp75 (CD122) expression on mononuclear cells in rheumatoid disease

Article Abstract:

The malfunction of a portion of interleukin-2 (IL-2), an immune system stimulator, called the IL-2Rp75 subunit may play a role in the uncontrolled inflammation process seen in the joints of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Joint tissue and blood samples of 12 patients with non-rheumatoid arthritis and 16 patients with rheumatoid arthritis were analyzed for IL-2Rp75 expression. This test was repeated on blood samples from 6 healthy volunteers. IL-2Rp75 expression was significantly higher in joint tissue from non-rheumatoid than rheumatoid patients. IL-2Rp75 expression was similar in all blood samples.
