Statutes and regulations relating to sexual misconduct in the practice of dentistry: part I

Article Abstract:

An overview of various state statutes and regulations pertaining to allegations of sexual misconduct against dental professionals is provided. The dental licensing boards that are authorized by the states in this behalf subject to the state laws, which criminalize sexual assaults and abuse, take dentists subject to any disciplinary action, for conviction under the criminal laws.

Court upholds final version of HIPAA privacy regulations

Article Abstract:

The final version of the HIPAA privacy regulations is upheld by a federal district court decision. The regulations allow health care entities covered by the rules to disclose patients' protected health information for routine purposes without first obtaining their consent, thereby making them more flexible in treating their patients.

HIPAA security regulations: protecting patients' electronic health information

Article Abstract:

The HIPAA security regulations as they apply to dentists are reviewed. These regulations cover any patient health information that is transmitted electronically to someone else. Dentists have until April 2005 to comply with the regulations.
