When advising patients on types of stoma pouch, stoma care nurses should consider how much protection is offered by certain pouches, whether barrier creams will be extensively used, whether the pouch is drainable or closed, the size of pouch and whether it is clear or opaque. Stoma care nurses should also encourage patients to their level of fitness either through sport or walking.
