Stretched resources: the human and financial costs of stress

Article Abstract:

Stress at work can be the cause of resignations, accidents, low morale and have financial implications to a company if not dealt with appropriately. Stress in the workplace is the result of a variety of reasons such as; a heavy work load, fear of job loss, the introduction of new skills and long hours at work. Management should be prepared to initiate plans to tackle the underlying causes of stress in conjunction with treating the symptoms. Companies may introduce a counselling service to help stressed workers and identify areas were they are most likely to suffer from stress.
