Strike fears as Brown hands nurses 'pay cut'

Article Abstract:

Nurses have expressed a strong disapproval of chancellor Gordon Brown's imposition of splitting the 2.5% rise in their pay in two stages of 1.5% and 1% as it renders them an overall increase of just 1.9%, amounting to a pay cut. Nurses unions have threatened taking an industrial action against this.

College faces toughest decision in its history

Pay rise proposal is 'slap in the face'

Article Abstract:

The UK government call to cap the nurse pay rise to 1.5% angered the nurse unions. A 1.5% raise would deliver 4% hike in average earnings for NHS staff, which is comparable with the current average across the whole economy.
