Screening for Down syndrome using first-trimester combined screening followed by second-trimester ultrasound examination in an unselected population

Article Abstract:

A multicenter, interventional study is carried out to assess the performance, acceptability and cost-effectiveness of a pragmatic approach to Down syndrome screening, based on first-trimester combined screening, followed by routine trimester ultrasound examination in the unselected population of a single health authority. The results have shown that 1 pragmatic interventional 2-step approach using first-trimester combined screening followed by second-trimester detailed ultrasound examination is a suitable and acceptable option for Down syndrome screening in pregnancy.

First-trimester nuchal translucency, nasal bones, and trisomy 21 in selected and unselected populations

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to assess the role of fetal nasal bones evaluation in first-trimester screening for trisomy 21 in selected and unselected pregnancies by visualizing the nasal bones in women attending for routine nuchal translucency screening as well as in high-risk pregnancies referred to tertiary care center. The result showed that first-trimester nasal bones assessment for trisomy 21 screening has a very different performance in selected and unselected pregnancies.

Fetal cardiac defects and increased nuchal translucency thickness: A prospective study
