Strong medicine

Article Abstract:

A group of physicians, statisticians, social scientists and epidemiologists launched a project in Santa Fe to create a virtual data warehouse that would integrate the electronic medical and pharmacy records of nearly 18 million patients in 13 health maintenance organizations (HMOs) across the US. The project is funded by the US National Institutes of Health and run by researchers affiliated with the nationwide HMO Research Network.

Rimonabant adds appetizing choice to slim obesity market

Article Abstract:

Rimonobant, the latest slimming pill is supposed to cleverly harness the endocannabinoid neutrotransmitter system in addition to its effect on the CBI receptors and fat cells present in the body, thus helping the obese people to burn their fats more quickly. The drug has proved to be very effective and is being widely used, though its potential side effects including high blood pressure are probing patients to give up on them.

Alternative therapies finding acceptance in mainstream medicine

Many universities in the U.S. have started emphasizing on integrating complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) into the traditional mainstream medicine. The views of medical students and physicians on CAM are discussed.
