Surgery for obesity: when is it appropriate?

Article Abstract:

Weight-reduction surgery is a serious step for individuals who cannot overcome their obesity through diet, exercise and medication. It is reserved for people who are more than 100 pounds above their ideal weight. Vertical banded gastroplasty and the Roux-en-Y are two kinds of surgeries that limit food intake.
