Surveillance and coordination key to reducing foodborne illness

Article Abstract:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that foodborne infections and other acute diarrheal illness affect 76 million people in the US each year. Preventive efforts have helped reduce the incidence of infections with certain pathogens since the period between 1996 and 1998, however, challenges remain and changes in the food supply chain warrant new approaches to food safety.
