Taking resuscitation decisions in the nursing home setting

Article Abstract:

A commentary distinguishes between resuscitation decisions taken in hospitals and those made in nursing homes for the aged. The principles laid down by the Mental Capacity Act have still to be tested, and until then it seems that prompt and suitable decisions with respect to resuscitation can only be made based on the patient's best interest and benefit.

Person-centered care must be the norm

Person-centered care is an essential element of nursing care for older people who may be coping with acute or chronic illness. The making of person-centered care, a practice in our daily life, can be challenging therefore, various measures are implemented to increase its practice.

Life after stroke: Sam's story

A description is presented of the treatment received by a 32-year-old stroke patient. His rehabilitation following the stroke and the difficulties which he faced coming to terms with his illness are discussed.
