Teaching the use of bases and liners: a survey of North American dental schools

Article Abstract:

The materials that dental schools use to teach students about bases and liners may vary from school to school and over time. Bases are used underneath permanent restorations. Liners are applied to cavity surfaces. Both bases and liners are used to protect the tooth pulp. Researchers surveyed 52 North American dental schools asking them which bases and liners they use now and have used in the past. Schools are teaching the use of new dentin bonding agents (DBAs), and are increasingly adopting their use in deep areas of teeth. Glass ionomers are also well-liked materials.
