Tell-tale signs of staffing disaster

Article Abstract:

Pay and working conditions need to be rapidly improved before a significant number of new nurses enter the National Health Service (NHS) or existing nurses stop wishing to leave the profession, according to an inquiry carried out by a House of Commons committee. Many nurses cited low pay, too much work and extra demands from employers and patients as the reasons for wanting to the leave nursing. The govenment is seeking to encourage up to 15,000 new nurses by the year 2002, although the inquiry claims this figure is still not high enough to properly staff the NHS.
