Telomere length predicts embryo fragmentation after in vitro fertilization in women - Toward a telomere theory of reproductive aging in women

Article Abstract:

The telomore length was examined as a predictor of cytoplasmic fragmentation, as well as other morphological features, in embryos from women undergoing IVF for treatment of infertility. The finding that telomeric length in human eggs predicts cytoplasmic fragmentation in embryos provides evidence that telomere shortening induces apoptosis in human preimplantation embryos, consistent with a telomore theory of reproductive senescence in women.

Circulating calcitonin gene-related peptide and its placental origins in normotensive and preeclamptic pregnancies

Article Abstract:

A study that determines the concentrations of both maternal and fetal plasma calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) in normotensive and pre-eclamptic pregnancies is illustrated. Results demonstrate that increased maternal plasma CGRP concentration in late pregnancies decreased after delivery thus suggesting that the placenta might be one of the sources of CGRP.

Risk of cesarean wound complications in diabetic gestations

Article Abstract:

The study was undertaken to examine the association between pregestational diabetes mellitus (DM) and wound complications after cesarean delivery (CD). Pregestational diabetes is associated with a 2.5-fold increase in wound complications after CD.
