Temporomandibular disorders: a term past its time?

Article Abstract:

The confusion involved in the use of the term temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is discussed. In a review of seven articles dealing with the disorder, three articles showed that it was not possible to establish clearly what condition was being studied. A list of more common diagnostic terms that can be used to substitute TMD are also presented.
