Terri Schiavo - A tragedy compounded

Article Abstract:

Terri Schiavo's cardiac arrest on February 25, 1990, left her in a persistent vegetative state, which continued till the year 2005 till when her artificial and feeding tubes were removed with U.S. court orders to lessen her pain. The pain and the hurt she went through during her 15 years of cardiac arrest is highlighted.

Important questions about individual rights and public health such as should pharmacists have a right to reject prescriptions for emergency contraception is described. Arguments against and in favor of a pharmacists right to reject prescriptions for emergency contraception are presented.

Ethical, legal, and social implications of genomic medicine

Several case studies are presented to illustrate the ethical, legal, and social implications of genetic testing. Many people are afraid they will be denied insurance or jobs because of their genetic traits. Several lawsuits have been filed based on the results of genetic testing.
