Tetraspanins on the surface of Schistosoma mansoni are protective antigens against schistosomiasis

Article Abstract:

Schistosomes are blood-dwelling flukes that infect 200 million people worldwide and are responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths annually. Studies show that tetraspanin (TSP) proteins are exposed on the surface of Schistosoma mansoni, and TSP-2 in particular provides protection more than the 40 percent benchmark set by the World Health Organization for progression of schistosome vaccine antigens into clinical trials suggesting that TSP-2 can be an effective vaccine antigen against Schistosoma mansoni.

Malaria parasites up close

Article Abstract:

The behaviors and early fate of sporozoites in the skin of mammals, their subsequent passage through blood and lymph vessels, and partial development of some parasites in lymph nodes are examined. Sporozoites follow an erratic pathway through the dermis and moved with a forward movement and greater velocity.

Malaria's journey through the lymph node

Article Abstract:

Researchers have studied how sporozoite-induced immunity to malaria is initiated. The results have shown the draining lymph node as a key step on the parasite's journey and have suggested that antigens expressed during the early stages of infection can be crucial targets of protective immunity.
