The CONSORT Statement: Revised Recommendations for Improving the Quality of Reports of Parallel-Group Randomized Trials

Article Abstract:

Researchers present a revised version of the CONSORT guidelines that reflect new evidence and address some common criticisms of the original version. These guidelines were created to help biomedical researchers write detailed reports of their research for publication.

Use of the CONSORT Statement and Quality of Reports of Randomized Trials: A Comparative Before-and-After Evaluation

Article Abstract:

Many biomedical scientists are using the CONSORT guidelines to improve the quality of reports of clinical trials for publication. This was the conclusion of researchers who compared the quality of 211 reports in four medical journals before and after the implementation of the guidelines. The guidelines were introduced in 1996.

CONSORT: an evolving tool to help improve the quality of reports of randomized controlled trials

Article Abstract:

The development of the Consolidated Standard of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) and its continuing improvement should improve the planning and reporting of clinical trials. Many reports of clinical trials omit very important data such as the number of patients studied or the way patients were randomized to receive various treatments. CONSORT was developed to improve this situation by providing a checklist covering all the data that should be included in reports. About 70 medical journals have endorsed it and the group that developed it plans to modify it as needed.
