The Geography of Sexual Partnerships in Baltimore: Applications of Core Theory Dynamics Using a Geographic Information System

Article Abstract:

Sexual partners of urban patients infected with gonorrhea are very likely to live close to the patient's address. Researchers studied the geographic distribution of 572 patients and their sexual partners, and found that the average distance between patient and partner was 1.7 kilometers. Sexual activity confined to small geographic areas may explain why gonorrhea and other sexually-transmitted diseases tend to become endemic in core areas. Disease prevention efforts should be focused in regions with a large number of patients.

Ambulatory STD Management in an Inner-City Emergency Department

Article Abstract:

Many poor people may go to an emergency department for treatment for a sexually transmitted disease (STD). In a survey of 98 patients in a hospital emergency department, many were poor, had no health insurance or a regular source of health care, and were drug addicts. Many had delayed seeking treatment because they tried treating themselves. Drug use was also linked to treatment delays.

Sexually Transmitted Infections in Women with Disabilities

Article Abstract:

Women with disabilities may require special treatment for a sexually transmitted disease (STD). It may be difficult to distinguish symptoms of an STD from symptoms of the underlying condition. Women with spinal cord injury may have unusual symptoms from an STD.
