The Yugoslavia Prospective Study of environmental lead exposure

Article Abstract:

In the Yugoslavia Prospective Study of environmental lead exposure 577 children were followed through 7.5 years of age from midpregnancy and it was found that exposure to lead was not associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. It was associated with modest decreased levels of intelligence, small increases in blood pressure, greater risk of proteinuria, perturbed hematopoiesis and small behavior problem increases. In one of the two towns in the study is a lead smelter, refinery and battery plant. Methodological problems exist.
