The accuracy of antenatal fetal echocardiography screening in high- and low-risk patients

Article Abstract:

Standard tests used for detecting structural abnormalities of the heart in fetuses may not be accurate, especially for fetuses with a low risk of heart abnormalities. Researchers used four-chamber and left ventricular outflow tract tests to diagnose heart abnormalities in 1136 low-risk patients, and comprehensive fetal echocardiographic examinations in 886 high risk patients. Two of 14 low risk patients were correctly diagnosed as having structural heart abnormalities, and 12 had false-positive diagnoses. Ten of 16 high-risk patients with congenital heart disease were diagnosed before birth, and two had false-positive diagnoses. Comprehensive fetal echocardiographic examinations should be performed on fetuses with any risk of congenital heart disease.

Obstetric ultrasonographic findings and fetal chromosomal abnormalities: refining the association

Article Abstract:

Certain fetal anatomical abnormalities are associated with chromosomal abnormalities, according to researchers who compared the results of a fetal ultrasound scan with the results of amniocentesis in a study of 3,775 pregnant women. Based on these results, a neural network successfully predicted the presence or absence of chromosomal abnormalities in 901 additional pregnancies.

Reevaluation of the relationship between amniotic fluid volume and perinatal outcome

Article Abstract:

The study aims to reevaluate the relationship between amniotic fluid volume (AFI) and perinatal outcome. The results suggested that AFI is a weaker predictor of perinatal outcome than it is classically suggested.
