The antibody response to SIV in lactating rhesus macaques

Article Abstract:

Humoral immune response in the milk and plasma of 14 female rhesus macaques with suckling infants was characterized as a model of breast milk transmission of HIV. The observations indicate that the SIV-macaque model provides a unique resource for deciphering the functional role of antibodies in breast milk transmission of HIV and the observations are comparable with those for HIV-infected women.

Frequent human leukocyte antigen class I alleles are associated with higher viral load among HIV type 1 seroconverters in Thailand

Article Abstract:

The study was conducted to evaluate the association between HLA class I allele frequencies and HIV-1 levels during the first year after seroconversion. The results support the information of frequency-dependent effects of host genes on HIV type 1 evolution in different population and suggest that HLA-driven viral evolution critically influences control of viremia in early HIV type 1 infection.

Mortality among HIV-1-infected women according to children's feeding modality: An individual patient data meta-analysis

Article Abstract:

An individual patient data meta-analysis is conducted using data regarding HIV-1-infected women from eligible clinical trials. HIV-1-infected women with lower CD4(super +) counts are less likely to initiate breast-feeding and the mothers' mortality during the 18-month period after delivery did not differ significantly according to children's feeding modality.
