The broad-spectrum antiviral ribonucleoside ribavirin is an RNA virus mutagen

Article Abstract:

In laboratory tests using the poliovirus 3D(pol) model viral RNA polymerase, the antiviral ribonucleoside analog ribavirin reduced infectious production in some cases to 0.00001% within cell culture. Findings suggest that ribavirin generates error catastrophe in the virus, with ribavirin's mutagenic activity correlating directly to its antiviral activity.

Epstein-Barr virus nuclear protein EBNA-3C interacts with the human metastic suppressor Nm23-H1: A molecular link to cancer metastasis

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the relationship between the Epstein-Barr virus and malignancies are examined, focusing on the interaction between the essential latent antigen, EBNA-3C, and the metastatic suppressor protein Nm23-H1. Results indicate EBNA-3C may contribute to cancers.

Engineering attenuated virus vaccines by controlling replication fidelity

Article Abstract:

A new approach for developing and engineering several new attenuated virus vaccines by controlling their replication fidelity is discussed. The developed viruses are found to be highly stable and safe with reduced viral tissue tropism and pathogenicity.
