The clinical efficacy of oral tocolytic therapy

Article Abstract:

Oral medications to suppress contractions do not appear to prolong pregnancy in women experiencing preterm labor. Researchers randomly assigned 205 women between 24 and 34 weeks gestation whose preterm labor had been stopped with intravenous medication to either oral terbutaline, oral magnesium chloride, or placebo. No differences were seen among the groups for level of uterine activity, the incidence of subsequent episodes of preterm labor, the rate of preterm birth, or in newborn outcomes.

Short cervix on ultrasound: Does indomethacin prevent preterm birth?

Article Abstract:

The role of indomethacin therapy in preventing preterm birth (PTB) in women with a short cervical length (CL) on transvaginal ultrasound (TVU) is examined. Indomethacin therapy for asymptomatic women having CL less than 25 mm on TVU at 14 to 27 weeks and do not receive a cerclage have not prevented spontaneous PTB less than 35 weeks, but did prevent PTB less than 24 weeks.

Prior cone biopsy: Prediction of preterm birth by cervical ultrasound

Article Abstract:

Predictive accuracy for preterm birth of transvaginal ultrasound (TVU) of the cervix in women with prior cone biopsy was tested. The primary outcome in this case was spontaneous preterm birth less than 35 weeks in women with this medical condition.
