The demographics of dentistry

Article Abstract:

A summary of surveys by the American Dental Association provides details about practicing dentists. Demographic aspects include age, practice mode, cultural diversity, career choice, and residence by state. The average active dentist is 47 years old, mostly in general dental practice that he owns, and a white male. Dentistry as a career choice will decline. There are 166,425 active dentists in the US, residing in large numbers in California, New York, Texas, and Pennsylvania. Vermont and Wyoming have the fewest resident dentists.

Using digital imaging to create the 'wow' factor for patients

Article Abstract:

Dr. Tony Soileau addresses lectures at mainly smallish dental meetings about the merits and techniques of digital dental imaging. He and his four staff members have 15 handheld digital cameras to take a series of photographs of every patient's smile, whose images are loaded onto the office computer system and manipulated to show patients the way their dentition could be improved with proper treatment.
