The effect of previous coronary-artery bypass surgery on the prognosis of patients with diabetes who have acute myocardial infarction

Article Abstract:

Coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) may benefit all diabetic patients who have severe coronary artery disease. In a study of 641 diabetic patients and 2,962 non-diabetic patients who had angioplasty or CABG, 20% of the diabetics died within 5 years compared to 8% of the non-diabetics. Among the diabetics who had CABG, the risk of death after a heart attack was substantially less than in diabetics who had angioplasty. Even diabetics who did not have a heart attack had lower mortality rates if they had a CABG. CABG did not protect non-diabetics from an early death.

A multicenter, randomized, double-blind, controlled trial of nebulized epinephrine in infants with acute bronchiolitis

Article Abstract:

Inhaled epinephrine does not appear to benefit babies with a lung disease called bronchiolitis, according to a study of 194 babies. Bronchiolitis is a lung infection that in young babies is often caused by the respiratory syncytial virus. The infection causes swelling in the lungs, which is why some doctors believe epinephrine might be helpful.

A multicenter, randomized, controlled trial of dexamethasone for bronchiolitis

Article Abstract:

A study determines the effectiveness of a single dose of oral dexamethasone in infants with moderate-to-severe bronchiolitis. Results show that a single dose does not significantly alter the rate of hospital admission, the respiratory status after four hours of observation, or later outcomes.
