Issues are presented concerning the management of breathlessness in patients without the use of pharmaceuticals. The availability of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and home visits from nurse practitioners is discussed.

The effective assessment of acute breathlessness in a patient

Article Abstract:

The skills that are required to assess the breathlessness, which is a common cause of acute and emergency presentations in a patient quickly and appropriately are described. Breathlessness can result from respiratory and cardiac disease, can be a symptom of systemic disease and may be a result of psychological distress or a patient's lifestyle.
