The effects of intra-amniotic injection of periodontopathic lipopolysaccharides in sheep

Article Abstract:

The effects of the intra-amniotic injection of lipopolysaccharide from 3 periodontopathic organisms in sheep are examined and compared to the effects of similar injection of Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide. Lipopolysaccharides from 3 periodontopathic organisms have much higher rates of fetal lethality than Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide however can cause similar intrauterine inflammatory responses and improvements in lung volumes in survivors.

Host defense proteins in vernix caseosa and amniotic fluid

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to define the spectrum, activity, and spatial distribution of antimicrobial peptides in vernix caseosa and amniotic fluid in the absence of clinical chorioamnionitis. It is found that in the absence of chorioamnionitis, vernix and amniotic fluid contain an organized pool of antimicrobial peptides with a defined spectrum of bioactivity against common bacterial and fungal pathogens.

Host response after reconstruction of abdominal wall defects with porcine dermal collagen in a rat model

Article Abstract:

The inflammatory response after implantation of Pelvicol with Prolene in a rat model is compared. Pelvicol induces a milder inflammatory response, less adhesion formation, more orderly collagen deposition than Prolene, and reaches a comparable tensile strength only after 90 days.
