The effects of nursing models on quality of care

Article Abstract:

More research should be carried out on nursing models to assess their impact on the quality of patient care, and a study has been carried out of a psychiatric ward for long term patients as a contribution to this field. The study involved nine months' fieldwork in a hospital in Northern Ireland, and the results indicate that the Human Needs Model (HNM) used in this action research did bring some positive benefits. Further research involving a larger scale project would help validate these findings.

Road to nowhere?

Article Abstract:

Midwives in the United Kingdom have found that jobs are difficult to obtain, a situation which has arisen rapidly, and which has been exacerbated by continued recruitment despite a surplus of people in the profession. While the profession has been affected by major changes, including changes in training and education, there has been little public debate. There is a need for coordinated action to solve the crisis, with participation from all those concerned, including midwives.
