Paravaginal repair of lateral vaginal wall defects by fixation to the ischial periosteum and obturator membrane

Article Abstract:

The ischial periosteum appears to be strong enough to support the vaginal walls in women with vaginal prolapse. Surgeons examined cadavers to analyse the strength of the ischial periosteum and then operated on 40 women with vaginal prolapse. In follow-ups ranging from seven months to four years, the technique was successful in supporting the vagina and 94% of the women with urinary incontinence were cured by the surgery.

Article Abstract:

The Pelvic Organ Prolapse staging system may incorrectly identify women with increased pelvic organ prolapse. In a study of 241 women, an apparent increase in prolapse was not real but was attributed to changes in the size of the vagina.
