The emergency contraceptive pill: a survey of knowledge and attitudes among students at Princeton University

Article Abstract:

University students may be aware of the emergency contraceptive pill but not know specific details about how it works. The emergency contraceptive pill is also called the morning-after pill, and is a high-dose regimen of regular oral contraceptive pills taken within 72 hours after intercourse. Researchers randomly surveyed undergraduate and graduate students and conducted focus groups at Princeton University to ask students what they knew about the emergency contraceptive pill. Thirty-two percent of students had ethical concerns against the use of the pill based on health reasons, religion, Republican party affiliation, and unfamiliarity with pill composition. University health services may need to provide more education to students about the pill.
