The fight to go public

Article Abstract:

The UK Department of Health has resisted calls to publicise the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding nurse Beverley Allitt's murder of babies at Grantham hospital, England. An internal inquiry has revealed inadequate staffing and mismanagement. However, paediatric experts consider circumstances at Grantham hospital may be typical of other hospitals. An attempt to prevent loss of confidence in the health service reforms may underlie the decision for a closed inquiry.

School nurses call for radical change in law

Article Abstract:

The Amalgamated School Nurses' Association, the Health Visitors' Association and the RCN want new laws on minimum health standards for school children in the face of drastic cuts in the school nursing service. The South Western Region is planning cuts and Camberwell Health Authority has already reduced numbers of school nurses. This is in spite of government documents emphasising the important role of school nurses in relation to child health.
