The project isn't working

Article Abstract:

The UKCC has been accused of failing to deliver competently qualified nursing staff through its Project 2000 training framework. Project 2000 was established as a scheme to improve nursing, with mental health nursing being particularly targetted. The Royal College of Nursing supports the concept of Project 2000, although it would like to see a greater emphasis placed on learning communication skills and health promotion. Project 2000-trained nurses claim the programme concentrates too much on the theoretical aspects of nursing, while practical training is limited.

Education heads back to basics

Article Abstract:

More emphasis will be placed on teaching student nurses the relevant practical issues of nursing after a report into the way nursing is taught in the UK highlighted a growing gap between theory and practice. Project 2000 is the educational programme for nurse training in the UK but the report suggests a move towards ensuring nurses are fit to practice. The nursing training governing body, the UKCC, is pleased with the recommendations made in the report and will try to implement those considered most important.
