The role of the nurses specialist in osteoporosis

Article Abstract:

Postmenopausal women are the main sufferers of osteoporosis, with an estimated 750 million pounds sterling being spent on related bone treatments in the UK during 1995. Specialist nurses can help women who have been diagnosed as suffering from the disease by improving diet and exercise. Calcium deficiency is one of the main causes of osteoporosis, which can increase the risk of bone fractures and cause painful spine curvature in extreme cases. Hormone replacement therapy can prevent continued fractures and bone loss, as can improved nutritional intake and regular exercise.
