The unseen menace: Thailand has thousands of street children - and every one of them risk slipping into prostitution and becoming just another statistic in an appalling AIDS epidemic

An initiative in Thailand has been announced to link government, businesses and voluntary organisations in an attempt to reduce the infection rate of AIDS amongst youngsters. 5000-8000 newborn babies are infected each year, and street children who are lured into prostitution are also a high risk group. HIV services have been pioneered by the Thai Red Cross Society's Chulalongkorn Hospital in Bangkok and the college of nursing operates a specialist AIDS nursing course.
