The vice of fame

Article Abstract:

Extensive media coverage of the addiction problems of well-known personalities in the UK may have served to give a misguided impression about the services and treatments available to addicts. Furthermore, the general public may have been misled about what life as an addict is actually like. Nurses need to be able to distance themselves from addiction as it relates to famous people and to be aware that there must be significant changes in their role in caring for addicts. It is important that they are familiar with the various treatment approaches.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Article Abstract:

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a medical term used to cover a range of lung diseases. Its main use is for smokers who suffer from both chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and is also known as chronic obstructive airways disease. COPD kills more people than lung cancer. Besides tobacco, the disease can also be attributed to pollution, among other causes. Treatment includes persuading patients not to smoke, pulmonary rehabilitation, the administration of drugs, oxygen therapy and surgery.

Cinderellas are ready for the ball

Article Abstract:

Nursing elderly people has traditionally been viewed as an unattractive career option by UK nurses. However, this situation is set to change as the government increases investment in health and social care for the elderly. New opportunities are arising for elderly care nurses to learn a wide range of skills and to take on high levels of responsibility.
