Questions of collection

Article Abstract:

Collecting rare plant species from their native location and planting them in another can often endanger the species population, but sometimes this action offers the only hope in saving the species and repopulating the native habitat. Irresponsible collection habits, relaxed preservation laws and public ignorance has led to the loss of many plant species and pollution of native gene pools. Collecting from nurseries which properly cultivate plants and collecting from areas slated for development or destruction can save many species and lead to habitat repopulation and growth.

The wonders of Darwin's world

Article Abstract:

A book by Nathaniel Wanley entitled 'The Wonders of the Little World' was hypothesized to be the book that greatly influenced Charles Darwin's thinking. Two kinds of evidence support this possibility; computer search of literary data bases failed to produce any book entitled 'The Wonders of the World' which Darwin himself declared he read, and the remarkable popularity of Wanley's book up to the 1800s, suggesting its accessability during Darwin's schooldays.

Being a man

Article Abstract:

A general belief is present that being a man is a gilt-edged platinum card for life, or at least, it is a significant head start on one. Yet, being a man is a curious kind of identity, and it fits uneasily into the general frame of identity politics, as being a man is invested with the image of humanity, the model, normal, abstract or generic 'human being'.
