This I believe ... about the care of human beings

Article Abstract:

Nurses should look to the philosophy of total healing behind holistic medicine and realize their role in helping to heal patients both physically and spiritually. The growing interest in holistic and alternative medicine reflects the public's dissatisfaction with the speed and finance-focused practices of traditional Western medicine. Rather than treating the symptom of a greater problem, holistic medicine emphasizes all aspects of a person's mind, history, body, outside influences, and spirit.

When negligence becomes homicide

Article Abstract:

Criminalizing negligent but unintentional malpractice errors may threaten the viability of nursing. Though nurses represent the final barrier to medication error for patients, human error will continue to be a factor in this profession. Criminal liability should be reserved for intentional or reckless behavior. Reasons behind a significant percentage of serious treatment errors may also lie in complications associated with health care reorganization.

100 years: a nurses' dreaming

Article Abstract:

The 100th anniversary of the American Nurses' Association (ANA), celebrated in Jun 1996, centered on the stories of sacrifice and discovery by nurse heroes. Florence Nightingale, Dorothea Lynde Dix, Harriet Tubman, Clara Barton, Margaret Sanger and Dorothy Cornelius were some of the names included in the ANA's "Hall of Fame." Nurses continue to be crucial to expanding the definition of health and redesigning care delivery systems.
