Three additional drugs available under treatment IND

Article Abstract:

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved three drugs still under investigation for use by patients with serious diseases for which there is no alternative treatment. Tacrine will be available to Alzheimer patients, 566C80 to patients with Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, and oxandrolone to boys experiencing a delay in growth and puberty.

Research involving human subjects in developing countries

Article Abstract:

Medical research conducted in developing countries should be well-designed and should conform to the ethical standards that have been adopted in the US. Within these guidelines, the investigators should still be responsive to the needs of the country in which the study takes place.

Ethical issues in the design and conduct of clinical trials in developing countries

Article Abstract:

Clinical trials conducted in developing countries should follow the same ethical standards as those conducted in the US. Within these guidelines, the investigators should tailor the study to the individual needs and goals of the country in which it takes place.
