Three approaches to comparative data

Article Abstract:

There are three types of data comparison frequently used to measure quality. Time series data analysis compares data from a single institution over time. It enables the institution to control what is measured and how it is collected. Cross-sectional analysis compares one institution with other institutions. This method furnishes the essential external perspective on performance. Best-in-class analysis compares one institution with another whose performance is considered to be superior, a standard-setter. This method of comparison is essential for institutions actively pursuing excellence.

The future of the quality professional in health care

Article Abstract:

In healthcare the quality professional is changing roles more rapidly and may even be eliminated. Technology advances, shifts in products, services and markets and increasing economic competitiveness are the sources of current changes, according to P.F. Wilson. Networks are being formed by healthcare organizations and control is more centralized. Managers are including quality work in their daily tasks. In the future it is not clear that quality professionals as such will continue to exist in healthcare groups.

Redundant reporting vs. proactive planning: it's all in how you use the tools

Article Abstract:

Shifting efforts from restating information already recorded to creating a plan for the future will create a more productive progress report. Reformulated reports that examine the group's current position on a specific objective and assign appropriate tasks and time frames to meet that objective provide more information to the reader and help focus the group on its desired goal. This will enhance the report's effectiveness.
