Throw down the gauntlet

Article Abstract:

Nurses who suffer latex allergy because of wearing cheap gloves can take their employer to court if they think the employer has not taken reasonable steps to prevent allergies occurring. The employer should have warned the staff of the risks, provided alternative gloves and installed air filtration systems. Employers are responsible for injuries which occur from using defective equipment. Latex glove manufacturers can also be held liable if their products cause health problems, especially as latex allergy has been a problem for years. Nurses can claim compensation if they win their case.

All fall down

Article Abstract:

The influenza pandemic of 1918-1919 took more than 20 million lives. It is the worst pandemic ever known. Modern researchers have identified the virus as being of the A strain with a significant antigenic shift. The first recorded notification of the influenza was in Kansas on Mar 5 1918. Soldiers then carried it to France in Apr 1918 and, by Oct 1918, almost the whole world was affected. The pandemic lasted for 58 weeks. Patients typically developed primary influenzal pneumonia within two days of contact, and medical staff could do little more than offer palliative treatment.

United we fall

Article Abstract:

Ensuring the services of a registered nurse at care services for the elderly is proven to be beneficial for patients who may need only limited medical intervention. Single care homes offer beds to elderly patients who are assessed as needing mostly residential care, although the added benefits of providing gerontological nursing care have been found to be important in maintaining health in the elderly. The services of long-term nurses and carers is an important element in the success of a single care home facility.
