The prince and the pauper

Article Abstract:

Nicolo Machiavelli was in addition to what he is more noted for a comic playwright. Machiavelli went into a self-imposed exile in the country because he could not find favor with the Medicis. He wrote his two comic plays 'Clizia' and 'The Mandrake' there. Institutions such as law, politics and the church come in for comedic treatment. The comedic device of disguise is also much used. Machiavelli was able to see the comedic elements of life as well as the more serious which he treats of in 'The Prince.'

Prince Hamlet and Professor Koch

Article Abstract:

Dr Robert Koch was a prominent physician/bacteriologist who discovered the organisms responsible for causing anthrax, tuberculosis and Asiatic cholera. Koch developed a unique routine of demonstration and proof concerning the etiologic relationships between microorganisms and disease syndromes. It is interesting to note that the structure of the routine, better known as 'Koch's Postulate,' may have been influenced by the play, 'The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.'
