Thy will be done?

Article Abstract:

Dr Kevorkian is known as 'Dr Death' because he assists people who wish to end their lives. Kevorkian uses a machine which administers a lethal measure of potassium chloride and although he has been tried for murder three times he has been acquitted each time. He videotaped one patient's death and was again charged with murder. If he is acquitted it will imply that the laws against assisted suicide are useless. However, making euthanasia legal will be very disruptive to the legal system and it will be ethically unacceptable to many who would otherwise support assisted suicide.

Past caring

Article Abstract:

Nurses offering palliative care are in danger of being marginalized because it is difficult to prove its cost effectiveness by quantitative research. Marie Curie nurses who care for the dying are more able to carry out qualitative research, but it is harder to attract funding for this. Marie Curie Cancer Care is considering issues such as providing better services for the dying, how palliative nurses fit into the new nursing structure, the changes to the National Health Service, and how to cope with the increasing numbers of people dying from cancer.
