Early Diagnosis and Treatment of Pancreatic Dysplasia in Patients with a Family History of Pancreatic Cancer

Article Abstract:

Determining which patients have a family history of pancreatic cancer and combining that information with diagnostic imaging using endoscopic ultrasonography and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) can identify pancreatic dysplasia as a precancerous condition. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most common cause of cancer death in the United States and is hereditary in an estimated 10% of cases. In examining 14 patients from three families with a history of pancreatic cancer, seven seemed to have dysplasia based on family history and endoscopic ultrasonography and ECRP. Pancreatectomy confirmed the diagnosis in all seven patients.

Alcohol-containing mouthwash and oropharyngeal cancer: a review of the epidemiology

Article Abstract:

Mouthwashes that contain alcohol probably do not increase the risk of mouth or throat cancer, according to researchers who analyzed nine studies. Only two of the studies found a link between the use of alcohol-containing mouthwashes and mouth or throat cancer. However, smokers may be more likely to use mouthwash and smoking alone can increase the risk of mouth and throat cancer.
